Почасовата работа е идеален начин за това, човек да намери баланса между личните и професионални задължения. Ако възнамерявате да работите почасово или дори вече сте започнали, трябва да сте на ясно с това какви права имате.

Почасовият работник е лице, което работи по-малко часове от останалите работници на пълен работен ден. Броят часове, които определят един работник като такъв на пълен работен ден не е строго определен, но средно на седмица той работи около 35 часа, което значи, че за да се определите като почасов работник, вие трябва да работите по-малко от това.

Различните хора имат различни предпочитания, затова почасовата работа може да се хареса на едни, но да бъде критикувана от други. Ако сте лице, което не може да отделя цял ден за професионалните си задължения, но имате нужда от средства, почасовата работа е решението за вас. В случай, че имате време и възможност да работите на пълен работен ден, определено ще е по-добре да го направите.

Въпреки, че сте почасов работник, вие имате същите права и задължения като останалите си колеги на пълен работен ден. Не е необходимо да имате отработени определен брой часове, за да се сдобиете с права. Отношението към вас също не трябва да бъде по-различно от това на останалите работници. Правилата и законите не пречат на работодателите да дадат повече привилегии на почасовите служители, стига това да не нарушава други закони.

Почасовият работник трябва да получава минимално заплащане, което се равнява на получаваното от работника на пълен работен ден, който има същите или подобни служебни задължения. Ако работодателя ви е определил по-високо заплащане за извънреден труд на работниците на пълен работен ден, вие може да не получите подобни заплащане, ако не сте отработили минималните работни часове.

Работодателят ви не трябва да ви дискриминира заради това, че работите почасово. Освен това вие имате право на същите служебни облаги, които получават и останалите работници на пълен работен ден. Ако не е възможно да се предложат бонуси и облаги на всички работници, работодателят трябва да реши дали е редно въобще да ги раздаде и на кого.

Това, че работите почасово не значи, че трябва да ви изключват от програмите за кариерно развитие. Работодателят ви трябва да провежда обученията така, че да можете да присъствате и вие, ако имате желание за това.

Както и всички други работници, вие имате правото на платен годишен отпуск. Законно установеният отпуск за хората, които са работили една пълна година е 4 седмици. Това значи, че като почасов работник, вие имате правото да получите отпуск като на всеки друг работник на пълен работен ден. Ако работодателят ви позволява на работниците да си взимат професионална почивка, то вие също имате право на такава. По същият начин стоят нещата и с вземането на майчинство, болнични и т.н.

Това, че сте работник на непълен работен ден не е причина за вашето съкращение или за отказ на повишение.

В случай, че забележите неправомерно отношение и дискриминация към вас, вие трябва да сравните дали отношението на работодателя ви  е същото и към останалите работници на пълен работен ден. Ако смятате, че се държи така само с вас защото работите почасово, първото нещо, което трябва да направите е да поговорите с него. Друг вариант е да изпратите писмо до работодателят, като трябва да очаквате отговор до 28 дни. Ако това не помогне, можете да подадете жалба и ако и това не помогне, може да отнесете случая до Служебния трибунал (Employment Tribunal).
